Frog [25 May 2012 11:55pm]

I have a new pet...

I was out on the playground Thursday with my students, and we found this teeny tiny frog... He was so small, we almost stepped on him. And he was totally in the wrong place for a frog... Frogs shouldn't be hanging out on playground equipment...

So, I caught him, and brought him inside... Put him in a little cup, and we kept him around for the rest of the day. (He managed to enhance our Hebrew lesson, since our letter of the week is a Tzadee, and Tzfardea, the Hebrew word for frog, starts with Tzadee.)

I had vowed at the end of the day to bring him over to the neighboring park and set him free...

But then I got to my car, and instead put him in the cup holder and drove home...

He's so very very tiny, I fear for his safety. He's no bigger than my thumbnail. I felt like it was leaving him to die, if I set him down in the middle of a park with no other frogs.

According to my friend the ecology teacher, he is an Eastern American Toad. And by his size compared to the size of the photos of adult frogs on the web, he is still a froglet.

I have cared for frogs before, but usually they are quite larger, and able to eat crickets. This frog is the same damned size as the crickets I'd buy to feed him.

I have at least figured out that he will eat ants that I drop into his cup. So, a few ants a day, and keep putting in a small layer of water to keep him hydrated...

I need to get him a better home than his cup (complete with a kippah for a lid, because it was what was available to keep him from climbing out that would also not be air tight)...

I feel like such a kid... Mommy, can I keep him?

I hope that by the time he is an adult-sized frog, I will have finished my backyard pond, and I can set him free in the garden to live...

My students named him Peter Pan.

Pottermore and stuff [12 May 2012 07:02pm]

Argh, I had a whole list of things I wanted to post about, and can't remember a single blasted thing from that list...

In other news, for the Harry Potter fans on my fiends list, a new way to waste spend time on the Internet. Pottermore is now open to the general public.

Explore the books (book 1 is the only one open at this time) online in a multimedia immersive environment, somewhere in between first-person player and third-person observer... You become a Hogwarts student alongside Harry, get your own wand, get sorted into a house, and your explorations and activities earn you house points. You explore highlights of each chapter of the books, and learn new information that JK Rowling didn't get to include in the published series.

If you join, I am "ChestnutRiver10" and blkstarsapphire is "RookCentaur204".

And hopefully I will remember the other stuff I wanted to talk about...

[ mood | sick ]

I have a viral upper respiratory infection... And because of that, I managed to get strep off my kindergarteners... (sent six of them home yesterday)

I'm not supposed to be able to get strep, as I'm a mutant...

So very sick and miserable...

I need cheering..

Holy Clothing Wholesale Order [12 Apr 2012 08:26pm]

Ladies,

For the first time ever, it looks like the Holy Clothing website has every last item I want to buy in stock, in my size, and in the color I want... Which, let me tell you is a small miracle... I have been waiting to get an order over $99 to be able to save the shipping costs, and I now realize that if I get every last item I want, it would be more like a $200 order... And there's a top I might order as a gift for a friend... And I have been toying with the idea of buying a few random pieces and seeing if reselling them works as an addition to our product line...

A wholesale order is a minimum of $400. Given what I am thinking of ordering, I probably only need another $100 worth of items to make that cutoff... Would anyone else on here want to go in on a bulk order? I would pass on the savings, of course... About 35% off each item... And I don't think there would be shipping (though that's something to look into, I've gotten peeved with them in the past for only allowing you to take a % off OR free shipping, but not both, but you would think that the wholesale deal would count towards free shipping?)... Local folks, obviously a pick up/drop off would be arranged... I'm willing to work out shipping to folks not in the area.

Anyone interested?

Vegas-bound [24 Mar 2012 01:04pm]

Look, a post!

I will be in Las Vegas from tonight until Tuesday evening, attending TribeFest 2012. (It's a conference for young Jewish community leaders.)

I will be staying at the Venetian.

1 - Any recommendations for places to go/things to see that are walking distance and don't take a lot of time? It doesn't look like I'll have a lot of free time...

2 - Any of you local to the area and want to meet for coffee or some such?

3 - Requests for souvenirs and/or photos?
